Aum(ॐ)

Aum()

The sound Aum() is a combination of 3 sound “a”(pronounced as in first “a” afar) ,”u”(pronounced as “oo” as in moon),”m”(pronounced as first m in “mother”). It is said to be the fundamental sound, all the millions/billions of sounds can be uttered/made just by varying these three sound. Aum() like any other sound is just a reverberation of waves the only difference being a fundamental one. It is also believed this was the sound that occurred during the big bang(Creation of Universe according to modern science), thus being also names as the Cosmic Sound.

The notes of the first “AUM” are higher, and should be sung loudly. The second note-sequence is a little lower, and is sung more softly. The third sequence is lowest, and is the softest of the three. It is not only present in Hindi and Sanskrit language it is present in all the other known languages present all over the world.

It is said the three sounds “a”, ”u”, ”m” have different meaning and have different significance, of one is to believe “a” is sound of Lord Brahma which is sound a Creation, “u” is Sound of Lord Vishnu which is sound of maintenance, “m” is Sound of Lord Shiva which is sound a destruction..

All three sounds combined a Full cycle of Creation to Destruction.

When one study yogic science, one will get to know that there are 72,000 Nadis flowing through the whole human body, which only meet once at a point. The Sound Aum() wakes up different nadis having different flow and use of energies. That’s why one may see, some yogis only chanting “mm”, when blissed out sitting crossed leg, it means they don’t care about the Creation, maintenance of their energies, just want to destroy the ill energies and liberate themselves.

With this unbelievable power at their hand the daemons become mad with greed, lust and did many horrific things that a normal person wouldn’t dare even to think. Seeing these havoc, all the devas approached Lord Shiva to put to   a stop to it, then an angered Shiva rose and destroyed all the tree purs showing his immense strength and power, thus the name Tripurari(An epithet of Lord Rudra).
